One of the things I loved to do in New York was to spend an afternoon in the bookstore. My favorite was the Barnes & Noble near Washington Square and the Barnes & Noble in Forest Hills. I would select 3 books and proceed to the nearest seating area with my Frappuccino in hand and spend the next 5-6 hours reading.
Back in July, I was ecstatic to learn that Taiwan’s biggest bookstore chain Eslite would be opening their first Hong Kong branch in early August inside the new Hysan Place mall. This past Tuesday, I dragged hubby and encountered a madhouse.
Tons of people everywhere at 3pm on a weekday. This was unlike any other bookstore I have ever been to. So many people and so much noise. Even though I wanted to leave as soon as I stepped inside, I forced myself to walk around all three floors of Eslite. I felt like an ant in an underground ant colony.
Overall: Visit if you like crowds.
Pros: (1) Open 24 hours. (2) 40% of the books are in foreign languages, mostly English. (3) Largest bookstore in Hong Kong.
Eslite is located on floors 8-10 inside Hysan Place Mall @ 500 Hennessy Road Causeway Bay
